Billericay Car Parking Issues

Spaces Currently Available: Car Seats - 3 | Private Spaces - 1 | Landlord Spaces - 2

Car Share Scheme

With a view to reducing your carbon footprint and freeing up valuable car parking space in the High Street, the Chamber of Commerce would like to hear from anyone interested in taking part in a car share scheme. Anyone who currently drives to the High Street, please register your interest in order that the idea can be pursued further. Please click HERE to register.

Rental of Private Spaces

In the light of current changes in public car parking i.e. a reduction in the number of permitted parking spaces in the Radford Way and Woolworth’s car park, the Chamber would be interested in learning of anyone living within reasonable walking distance of the High Street who would be willing to rent out private spaces to people relinquishing their spaces in either of these car parks. It is envisaged that spaces should be available between 8.00 am to 6.00 pm. Those renting their space(s) would receive remuneration and would have the security benefit from their property appearing occupied during the day.

Private Landlord Spaces

The Chamber would also like to hear from anyone with private car park spaces in the High Street who would be willing to rent these to people who currently have permitted spaces in the Radford Way and Woolworth’s car parks. The proposal is that the current council charges would be matched and that proper monitoring and wheel clamping where necessary will be put into operation so that use of the spaces will not be abused. Anyone with space(s) available on Saturdays only should also register if interested.

Please note that when entering this onto the website perhaps it should be pointed out that if people register with name, address, telephone number and e-mail address that this information will be kept in the strictest of confidence. It will not be released onto the website and will only be used when a suitable match is found. The two parties will then be put in touch in order to make final arrangements. This is to hopefully help all those with any fears about putting private information onto the web.

VisitBillericay.co.uk In the Gazette!

TRADERS have joined forces to bring Billericay into the 21st century with the introduction of the town’s first website. The Chamber of Commerce has worked closely with its members to create the virtual high street, offering visitors and residents an array of information at the touch of a button. A £600 shopping spree in the town is up for grabs on Friday, when www.visitbillericay.co.uk launches. More than a dozen shops have contributed towards the prize, which could grow even bigger.

Trevor Draper, chairman of Billericay Chamber of Commerce, said: “The aim of the website was to create a forum for the members of the chamber and also to provide the general public with somewhere they can raise issues that concern the town. We also hope the site will be a one-stop shop for people trying to find out information, look up events or link to other organisations such as the Billericay and Wickford Gazette, the town council or Essex Police.”

Audrey McLellan, from Dress the Part, said: “I think it will be fantastic for us to have awebsite to encourage people to come to Billericay because it has so many individual shops and it is just a great place to visit. It is great to have another way to advertise my business. It also provides another way to meet other business people and ask for advice or discuss problems.”

Mr Draper, who owns both The Billericay Cookshop and The Emporium, added: “We want to make it dynamic and, in the process, make life as easy as possible for businesses and customers. We hope it will be a one-stop shop for people trying to find out information. The site will be updated as regularly as possible and each month there will be a different competition. Every shop featured on the website will have either a link to its own site or its contact details."
